UNSUBSCRIBING FROM CLARINEWS GROUPS IN PINE
Unsubscribing from a single group
Unsubscribing from a newsgroup is easier than subscribing to it was! Simply
highlight the group name in your list of folders and type
D (Unsubscribe). When you are prompted to confirm your request, type Y (Yes).
To cancel your request, type N (No).
Unsubscribing from multiple groups
It is not possible to invoke the List command to unsubscribe from more than
one newsgroup in Pine. For this reason, the only one way to remove a number
of groups is to clean out your newsgroups altogether. You should do this only
if you have a very large number of subscribed newsgroups, you want to unsubscribe
from all of them, and you feel comfortable using some basic Unix commands on
your Pantheon account.
First, quit from Pine. At the Pantheon (mars, mercury, morpheus, or minerva)
prompt, type
ls -a. This will list your files.
You should see a file with the name
.newsrc . Save this file by typing mv .newsrc newsrc-old .
Now open Pine again. You will find that there are no newsgroups in the News-collection
section of the folder list. When you subscribe to newsgroups again, a new .newsrc
file will be generated.
