Keggi Library Fellow, Fall 2007

Anda Simina, Head of the Information and Bibliographic Resources Center at the National Library of Latvia, in Riga, is the sixteenth SEEC Library Fellow hosted by the Slavic, East European, and Central Asian Collection, and the eighth funded by a generous gift of Dr. Kristaps Keggi, a Yale alumnus and orthopedic surgeon with family roots in the Baltic countries.

A graduate of the University of Latvia, with a master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Anda has worked for over fourteen years at the National Library of Latvia, holding a number of positions. Earlier this year she was appointed Head of the Information and Bibliographic Resources Cente.

Based in the Slavic Reading Room, and working under the supervision of Tatjana Lorković, Curator of the Slavic, East European, and Central Asian Collection, Anda assisted with the processing of Baltic and Russian materials, while at the same time participating in daily acquistion work and learning about other Library units and departments, in particular Electronic Collections, Integrated Library Technology Services, Inter-library Loan, Borrow Direct and Reference Services and Collections. This exposure gave her the opportunity to familiarize herself with a variety of services, processes, and practices implemented in a large American academic library.

Anda's experiences at Yale and in the United States provided the material for a detailed report.
