Marje Tamre, Head of Collection Development at Tallinn University Academic Library, in Estonia, is the tenth visiting librarian to come to Yale under the auspices of the Dr. Kristaps Keggi Baltic Internship Program, and the eighteenth intern hosted by the Slavic Reading Room.

Marje studied English Language and Literature and Library and Information Science at Tallinn Pedagogical Institute. From 1995 to 2004, she was Library Director at Concordia International University Estonia (CIUE).  During the same period, she was responsible for the organization of the seminar on “Professional Ethics of the Librarians and Information Specialists” (which produced the Code of ethics for the librarians and information specialists of Estonia), and the automation of the CIUE Library (funded by the Regional Library Program, Budapest). She was also project coordinator for such initiatives as the III Nordic-Baltic Library Meeting “Libraries in Knowledge-Based Society” (Tallinn, October 25-26, 2001).

Marje has published extensively in Estonian and English-language professional publications on various aspects of librarianship, including professional ethics, business information, Internet usage, EU documents, new resource development, comparative analysis of LIS periodicals.

During her three-month internship in the Slavic and East European Collection, she will focus on exploring the Library’s organizational structure and day-to-day operations, with particular regard to collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic resource management.
