Ergonomics

A simple library-wide program has been developed to improve our ergonomic and workplace safety. Pete LeMay, University Safety Engineer, kicked off the program by conducting ergonomic and workplace safety sessions for library staff.

With the help of our expert users, each staff member will assume responsibility for developing an awareness of and applying ergonomic principles and safe workplace practices.

Please take the time to examine your workspace and make adjustments as necessary. The expert user in your group can help you through a five-point workstation audit. Your expert user will then award a "Yes! Ergonomically Correct" sticker to you as your workstation is determined to be "ergonomically correct". Displaying the sticker is optional. It mainly serves to raise ergonomic awareness and remind all of us to continually recheck our workstations and work habits.

The expert user will be responsible for collecting recommendations (for modifications requiring costs) from each department/unit and forwarding them to Kate Reynolds, LHR. These recommendations will be compiled along with Mr. LeMay's observations and recently completed assessments.

A copy of our ergonomic program is attached. To assist you in conducting your own workstation audit, please consult the Yale University Ergonomics Website at http://www.yale.edu/ergo/elements.htm .
