Professor Yaakov Bentolila was born in Tetuan, Spanish Morocco and currently lives in Israel. He received his Ph.D from the Hebrew University and was a professor in the Department of Hebrew language at Ben-Gurion University. He chaired the department in 1974-75 and 1990-92. He has been a research fellow at the research institute Langues et Civilizations a Traditions Orales, the Center for Jewish Studies at Harvard university and Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Scientificas in Madrid. He has been a member of the National Academy for the Hebrew language since 2004. His research interests include Hebrew words and elements in the Judeo-Spanish of Morocco, computational treatment of Hebrew texts, and spoken Israeli Hebrew.
