      Matthew Berkowitz

Rabbi Matthew Berkowitz is an accomplished painter and paper cut-out artist. He grew up in Freehold, Florida. Berkowitz received his undergraduate degrees in international relations and Middle East studies from Colgate University in 1993. He spent one year at the Pardes Institue of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. In Jerusalem, he was formally trained in Jewish scribal art. His portfolio, Passover Landscapes: Illuminations on the Exodus was exhibited at the Yeshiva University Museum. He received his ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York in 1999. Berkowitz seeks to fuse Jewish learning with visual arts and has presented at synagogues and other Jewish venues throughout the United States. He is married to Rabbi Miriam Berkowitz and they have three children.
