Schedule: Part Time, 15 hours. (Hours worked between 8:30-5:00) Flexible based
on departmental needs.
General Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the archivist at the Fortunoff Video Archive,
the Flemish translator watches video testimonies of Holocaust survivors recorded
in Flemish and writes a comprehensive summary in English on a PC, verifying
geographic headings and names of historically important figures.
Essential Duties
1. View video testimonies of Holocaust survivors recorded in Flemish and writes
a comprehensive summary in English on a PC
2. Verify geographic headings and names of historically important individuals
with a set of provided print resources
3. Provide other Flemish translation assistance to archivists as required
Education and Experience
1. Native fluency in Flemish, and excellent spoken and written English; one
year of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent
combination of experience and education.
Skills and Abilities
1. Previous work experience must demonstrate accuracy and consistency.
2. Dependability in following directions and procedures.
3. Willingness to work with emotionally difficult materials.
4. Commitment to ensuring confidentiality of survivors’ personal information.
5. Familiarity with computers, and moderate keyboarding skills.
6. Preferred: knowledge of Jewish history, culture and the history of the Holocaust.
