Staff Members in FocusForty years of service: Janet ProchownikSubmitted by Claire Halloran
In the Acquisitions Department of the past, Janet was a Level D in charge of Data Entry. She processed books that came to the library on approval plans. She entered new purchase orders into the MATPS system. Then there was the transition from MATPS to Orbis. Janet did the trouble-shooting required to help make a smooth transition to Orbis. Thirteen years ago the new management system was introduced. It was then that Janet became Manager for the Fiscal Support Team. Her responsibilities include processing many of the book invoices for Sterling Memorial Library and some of the School and Departmental Libraries. Trouble-shooting for the complications that arise is part of her daily life at work. Her rich life away from the library includes tending her garden. She finds working with flowers especially relaxing. She is fond of long walks, reading, and enjoys nature. Janet has cared for both dogs and cats as her pets. Currently she has a cat whose personality is lively and amusing. Janet enjoys taking trips. She has family and close friends who live in several other states and they keep her on the go. Grotowski & His Laboratory Theater
Curated by Teresa Mensz, Drama Library
This exhibit presents the life and work of Polish director Jerzy Grotowski (1933-1999), creator of the experimental Laboratory Theatre in Poland in the early sixties. Three striking posters from the Laboratory Theatre's exemplary productions presented in New York in 1969 are the inspiration for this exhibition. Grotowski's concept of a "poor theatre" and his techniques for training actors had a major impact on theater worldwide.

The Gandhi King Ikeda: Builders of Peace exhibit came to Yale's Afro American Cultural Center from January 28th to February 9th. Several lecture events, a book, document, and photograph exhibit, and an afternoon film festival were spread out between the opening and closing dates. The exhibit opened on January 28th with special guest Dr. Lawrence E. Carter, Dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College and creator of the traveling exhibit. Dr. Carter presented GKI Awards to local community builders Rev. Samuel N. Slie, Associate Pastor of the Church in Christ in Yale University and tireless advocate and volunteer for numerous interdenominational New Haven and international relief projects, and Ms. Elsie Cofield, founder and President of the New Haven based Aids Interfaith Network. The exhibit closed on February 9 with a lecture by Dr. Ronald Bosco, Distinguised University Professor from the State University of New York, who spoke on the influence that Henry David Thoreau's work On Civil Disobedience had on Gandhi, King, and Ikeda.
