Jury Duty
Employees must give advance notice to their supervisor if they have been called
for jury duty, as well as receiving certification from the employee after they
have served. This certification can be obtained from the Clerk of the Court.
Employees selected for jury duty in judicial districts that have implemented
the One-Day-One-Trial system will receive their regular salary from the University
for the first five days of juror service. Beginning with the sixth day of their
service, employees will receive the difference between their current salary
and the jury compensation (excluding any travel and expense reimbursements).
Under this system, jurors are expected to be available for service, but are
notified on a day-to-day basis of the need to be present in court; therefore
their days of service are not necessarily consecutive.
Employees selected for jury duty in judicial districts that have not yet implemented
the new system, beginning the first day of service, will receive the difference
between their current salary and the jury duty compensation (excluding travel
and expense reimbursements).
Certification of time spent and compensation received for jury duty may be
obtained by the employee from the Clerk of the Court. To secure the difference
in pay, the department must submit copies of this certification with a Personnel
Profile form.
Employees not required to be in court or released from jury duty during the
course of the day are expected to return to their departments to perform their
assigned tasks.
