Reunion Weekend Events at the Library

Yale alumni, spouses, friends, family, and guests are warmly invited to Reunion Weekend events at Sterling Memorial Library on June 6 and 7. June 7 coincides with the Library's Open House Day and all are welcome. Detailed information and a schedule of tours and events can be found in the "read more" section of this entry.

Demonstrations of newly launched Yale Daily News Historical Archive

The Yale University Library and the OCD (Oldest College Daily) Foundation are sponsoring demonstrations of the initial phase of the digitized Yale Daily News Historical Archive from 9:30am to 4:00pm in the Sterling Memorial Library Nave. The brief demos will show how to search, display, and navigate issues from several periods in Yale's history, including WWI / WWII, 1967-70, and 1978-81. Visitors can search the YDN archive on their own at nearby Library workstations or via their own computers.

Tours

The Passover Haggadah: Modern Art in Dialogue with an Ancient Text

A curatorial tour of this exhibition which will demonstrate how the Haggadah's message of redemption and freedom is depicted in modern art. 10:30 am in Sterling Memorial Library opposite stacks elevators in the nave. The tour will last one hour and is limited to 15 people.

Innovating Teaching and Learning at the Collaborative Learning Center

The Collaborative Learning Center in the newly renovated Bass Library is a resource for the Yale community designed to foster dynamic interactions among Yale students, faculty, and staff from across the campus in support of teaching and learning. The Collaborative Learning Center brings together the resources and services of the Library, ITS Instructional Technology Group and Media Services, the Center for Language Study, and other departments providing support of teaching at Yale. Do data sets, government documents or SEC Filings excite you? Then come learn more about these and other unique treasures of the Social Science Libraries & Information Services at Yale. These libraries house materials in and provide research assistance for some of the fastest-growing departments at Yale including economics, political science, international affairs, and the School of Management. The Social Science Libraries & Information Services also support a number of other inter-disciplinary departments and initiatives including History, Nursing and the MacMillan Center.

Tours

New Space, New Services: Tour of the Renovated Bass Library & Collaborative Learning Center

This tour will highlight the newly renovated Bass Library including the group study rooms, the Thain Family Café, and the Collaborative Learning Center, including a presentation on new services for students and faculty. The tour will begin at 10 a.m. at the High Street entrance to the Sterling Memorial Library. Space is limited and participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis

Treasures of the Yale Library: A Tour with the University Librarian

Led by University Librarian Alice Prochaska, this is a wonderful opportunity to see remarkable treasures that make up one of the world’s leading research libraries. The tour will include the signature Gothic Revival architecture and stained glass, as well as some of the reading rooms and collections. The tour will begin at 11:15 a.m. at the Circulation Desk of the Sterling Memorial Library. Space is limited and participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Self-Guided tours of the architecture, stained glass, and reading rooms are also available at the Library’s entrance.

Revisiting Old Yale

Judith Schiff, Chief Research Archivist and author of the Yale Alumni Magazine column, “Old Yale,” will draw from the vast archives for a look into Yale’s past. Presentations begin at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. in the Lecture Hall.
