Meeting convened
at 12:00 p.m.
Nominate
chair for 2005-2006
Diana called for nominees for the chair elect for the 2005-2006 Fiscal
Year. Ruth and Suzanne volunteered. Since there were only 7 members present
we are holding off on an election until more of the committee can be present.
We would like it to be at the next meeting.
New staff
reception
Due to the scheduling problems of getting Alice and all the AUL’s in one
place at one time, in October no date had been set as of noon for the
New Staff Reception. Bernadette called Antonia to check the schedules
of the AUL’s and Alice for the first 2 weeks of November. Diana got a
notice from Antonia later that set the date for the 12th of November.
The New
Staff Reception will be held in the lecture hall at SML.
Bernadette
estimated that there would be about 25 new hires by that time. At the
moment there are 19.
Suzanne reported that she is looking into desserts. She will go to Julia’s
Bakery in Orange for samples (if available), as the last two cakes from
there were quite popular. Also someone in CCL makes excellent desserts
and might be amenable to supply something for the reception.
Suzanne
thought she could bring in samples for our next meeting for dessert decisions.
Christmas/Holiday
Party
The date for
the holiday party will be December 8, 2004. There is no venue as yet.
The possibilities were the nave, Beinecke, Woolsey Hall again, Kline,
and Luce Hall. We doubt that we will get permission for the nave, and
there are scheduling issues for Beinecke as well as safety issues with
young children (rails at the mezzanine level) Woolsey has handicapped
access problems and is a strictly Yale catering facility, which might
be a problem with Kline as well.
Kelly Shand
is the chair for the holiday party. A budget has not been discussed for
this. The one for last year was $7500. We hope it would not change too
much from that.
We did not
ask for chair/s for the holiday raffle as all members present had volunteered
for something already. If anyone who is not already coordinating an effort
for the committee would like to be the chair for the holiday raffle please
contact Diana Quinones.
Book
Drive
All boxes
have gone out and the book drive is underway. If you wish to contribute
money instead of books you can write a check to the United Way with a
note “book drive” on it and send it to Library Administrative Services.
Weight
Watchers
Mary Bradway
reported that she believes that we will have 15 paying members for Weight
Watchers starting on the 20th of September. There were a few people at
Medical who might come, and some returning members. If you know someone
who is interested please encourage them to attend.
Next
meeting: September 28, 2004. Place is TBD. Either at Beinecke if scheduling
can be arranged there or at SML.
