Meeting
convened at 2:00 p.m.
NEW MEMBERS
Two new
members of the committee were introduced, Aubrey Novak and Kevin Glick.
NEW
STAFF RECEPTION
People enjoyed
the new venue for the New Staff Reception at SSS hall. The wide variety
of food was also a plus. The only problem was the scheduling of the event.
Amanda Patrick commented that it was hard to take time off on a Friday
evening in Access Services. Also less people showed up than normal probably
because of the fact that it was on a Friday and it rained.
Kelly Shand agreed to chair the NSR for the spring since
the previous chair had to leave the committee. She will contact Bernadette
about dates and times for it.
HOLIDAY
PARTY
Preparations
for the party are coming along. The caterer is set and is familiar with
the restrictions at Beinecke. They will start to set up at 2 pm. There
will be passed items, which are hot, and items on tables. I will let them
know not to have everything out at once. The Wine Thief is doing the alcohol.
There will be a red wine, white wine and an assortment of beer. They will
deliver to Beinecke about 3:00 PM on the 8th.
Stephen
Cohen said he will get water and soda for the party. We discussed getting
tubs for ice as well as ice. The previous tubs broke. It is probably a
good idea as we can use them for other events. Ice can be bought that
day if the Wine Thief can’t provide it. Kelly Shand will find out.
There
will be no Santa this year, for three reasons. 1) No budget for renting
a suit, 2) no one has expressed an interest in doing it, and 3) there
were complaints about Santa being a Christian figure where the staff and
party is supposed to be multi-cultural.
We will
not need to buy any decorations this year as we have lots of garland and
some ornaments in the closet.
Amanda Patrick, Ruth Carruth, Mary Bradway, and Stephen Cohen volunteered
to help set up. Kathleen Burns and Aubrey Novak volunteered with clean up.
HOLIDAY
RAFFLE Prizes are coming in. Most of them seem to be gift certificates
at the moment. Ticket sales are going well. Ruth asked if we could we
pre-pick the winners at some point and just announce them at the party
as the actual raffle takes up a lot of time. Kathleen mentioned that we
could get someone to do it and have a neutral party verify the tickets.
The question would be when as we sell tickets at the party as well as
before.
NUTCRACKER
There was not enough interest this year to go to see the ballet. Cesar told
us there was only 1 person who bought tickets and thus the minimum number
of tickets was not reached to attain the group discount rate.
THANK YOU NOTES
Amanda Patrick showed us the notes she designed for LiSA to use. She chose
four photos of SML interior. They are quite nice and easy to produce. She
will print out about 20 at first for us to use. More can be done when needed.
CANNED FOOD
DRIVE
Ruth reported
on the food drive so far. It is going well, and she even needed a larger
box for SML as it got full very quickly. She will probably need help with
the final pick-up.
FIELD DAY Ruth
spoke to the contact at Lighthouse Point and was told that they won’t
book us until after the New Year. Dates need to be picked. A Saturday
is still the best option. She will check the calendars to try to avoid
most conferences and staff outages this year.
NEXT MEETING There
will be a brief meeting on Tuesday December 7, 2004 for the holiday party
at noon in Machine City. The next full meeting will be December 16, 2004
at 2 in Room 410.
Appendix
A. After the meeting, Kelly Shand sent out an email that addressed items
pertaining to the Staff Holiday Party which had been omitted from the
meeting. Namely, she reported that the caterer had agreed that people
could bring desserts to the party. Kelly suggested ordering one cake and
then requesting staff to bring goodies. She asked for thoughts from other
LiSA committee members and discussion commenced online.
