NOOKS
AND CRANNIES TOURS
Kathleen will
send out a list via e-mail of 25 suggestions that she received. We will
have 10 tours. Lolly has already volunteered the Map Collection for 1
of them so we will be choosing the other 9. There will be some back-up
tours suggested in case some do not work out. There was a brief discussion
about having a tour of the Lewis Walpole library as one of the 9. The
opinion was positive, but the distance and how to get there was a concern.
NEW
STAFF RECEPTION:
Kevin reported
on the dates that he has come up with for the Spring New Staff Reception.
So far he has 3 dates in April and 2 in May. He has reserved the Lecture
Hall in SML for Tuesday April 26, 2005 from 2-4 in hopes that the University
Librarian and all the AUL’s will be able to attend on that day.
Because it was suggested to him that Ann Okerson will be gone on that
day he thought that we could try for May 9, 2005 in SSS hall from 2-4.
Ruth reported that there is a budget of $3,000 for the spring reception.
Kevin
came up the the suggestion that we start planning dates for the Fall NSR
now. He has a few dates for fall in which all the AUL’s are here.
One is 9/30/05 and the other 10/14/05. Stephen Cohen thought that we would
be able to book the lecture hall for either of those dates this far in
advance.
Kevin
was going to check with Antonia if they could block out the date.
TSUNAMI
RELIEF:
The giving is going slowly. We have at this time collected about $600
for the relief effort. Stephen was going to send out an e-mail detailing
what that money has done for the efforts. We hope that will encourage
others to give.
The suggestion
was made that members of LiSA could talk about the relief effort in departmental
and staff meetings to boost support.
Kelly Shand
said she will say something at the Divinity Staff meeting in February.
Kevin Glick
wanted to know how many charity events LiSA took on per year. We do the
Food Drive and the raffle for Columbus House as a rule. We are also asked
to help with others, such as the Book Drive for New Haven Schools, and
the relief effort for Southeast Asia by the administration.
WEIGHT
WATCHERS:
Mary Bradway reported that there are 17 people in this session. It will
run for 12 weeks. She is going to try to advertise in the Yale Daily News,
the Yale Bulletin and Calendar and Working at Yale to reach a larger segment
as it is hard to come up with the 15 people every time. Also she is going
to start advertising earlier. Advertising on the web site was suggested
by Cesar Zapata.
BLOOD
DRIVE:
Ruth Carruth announced the date for the next blood drive. She still needed
confirmation of it, but she said it would be 2/17/05. It will be in the
middle of the day at the McDougall Center at HGS. We will set up posters
and send out e-mails.
It was asked
if they needed volunteers to help man the area. They thought that there
would be enough people.
Kathleen
Burns was going to add a Blood Drive page to the LiSA website.
NEW HAVEN
VOUCHER PROGRAM:
Kevin
Glick reported on what he had found out about the voucher program. It
is run from the Law School and Dwight Hall. It is a student organization.
There were
3 options for us to get involved with the program. The first was to help
man the table when the vouchers are sold once a month, the second was
to establish our own table in the Library and LiSA would organize it,
and the third was to sell them like tickets in the Library.
We decided
that to start with we would help man the table in the Law School and send
out notices on Yulib for advertisements. Aubrey Novack suggested that
we would also be able to take up the slack during the slow times, if this
is a successful joint effort.
Kevin will remain the contact person until further notice.
NEXT
MEETING
TBA.
