COLUMBUS
HOUSE BOOK DRIVE:
Amanda
reported on the success of the book drive. She estimated that about 300
books were collected in the week and a half we ran the drive. The boxes
were in the LiSA closet and in the shipping room in preparation for going
to Columbus House. Acquisitions at SML had told her that they were going
to donate some items as well. Ruth said that the Beinecke box was going
to be brought over the next day.
As
the intended donation site is smaller than the main site we were satisfied
with the amount of books collected.
COMMITTEE
FAIR:
The committee fair will take place on June 14, 2005 from 1-3 pm at SML.
Either in the courtyard or in the Lecture Hall depending on the weather.
There will be 6 total tables. 5 for the committees that agreed to take
part and one for the food. There will be 2 committees at each table.
Bernadette volunteered to help set up at 12:30 and staff the first shift
of the table at 1. Cesar said he could help for the entire time. Ruth
will take the 1:30-2 shift, Aubrey will take the 2-2:30 shift and Kelly
the 2:30-3 shift.
Several suggestions were made about the placement of tables if we need
to use the Lecture Hall in case of inclement weather. The agreed upon
placement was to use the Memorabilia room for 2 tables and place the other
4 tables inside the Lecture Hall. It was generally agreed that one table
with the refreshments would be inside the Lecture Hall.
Patrick told us that the final decision on place would be made on June
13, 2005 on the strength of the weather predictions.
NEW
MEMBERS:
The new members of the committee for 2005-2006 are as follows: M&P’s
Tara Kennedy from SML. Michael Rush from Beinecke. C&T’s Eva
Duszkiewicz from SML, Pamela Clifford from Law and David McMahon from
Mudd. There is one open SML M&P slot left and there was a discussion
and names suggested about whom to approach to fill that spot.
MEETING
WITH DIANE TURNER:
Diane Turner expressed some concern about the amount of time that staff
members were spending in LiSA sponsored events over the course of the
year. She had heard some complaints from various supervisors about this.
She wanted to know should we expand the committee in light of these concerns.
It was agreed that with the difficulty in getting members we should keep
it at 13.
Some of the concerns might have come early in the year as we had some
members leave for personal reasons.
Another concern was that we were not using volunteers who might be interested
in helping. A problem with that is the lack of response when we do ask
for volunteers in the wider library community.
Some of the events sponsored this year, such as Tsumani Relief and the
New Haven Cares Voucher program, were one time events or test events.
We do not see the committee as continuing with the Voucher Program except
in a public relations way. Perhaps sending e-mails announcing sales.
There are events that will be discontinued for lack of interest like Theatre
Night in December and Weight Watchers at work.
The suggestion was made to spread out the Nooks and Crannies tours over
a longer period of time. Starting the spring and going into the fall was
a popular suggestion.
With some events as one time and some events being discontinued we are
confident that the workload for the committee will be more manageable.
It was also suggested that the committee has more co-chairs for events
in order to split the work load more equitably.
