COMMITTEE
FAIR WRAP UP:
Mary Caldera reported to Ruth that the feedback was good. People thought
it was interesting, it took away the anonymity of committees and they
enjoyed the snacks. A few people thought it was odd to have committees
such as LMC there as you can’t join it and that didn’t have
any written information.
Bernadette and Cesar were thanked on behalf of the committee for the outreach
to new staff in this endeavor.
Stephen suggested that perhaps next year the volunteer committees and
non-volunteer committees could be split on different sides of the room.
The fair was on a trial basis. It might continue every year.
FIELD
DAY:
An e-mail was sent announcing the date for field day. The time will be
from 12-4. Hero’s of East Haven will cater the food. The menu will
be hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers.
The committee will provide prizes and gifts for the children who come.
Bubbles or gift certificates to Ashley’s were two suggestions.
The carousel will be open. And there is a water park as well. It is still
$10.00 unless you are a New Haven resident. There will be a baking contest
and the three categories are best chocolate dessert, best fruit and best
other. Cesar
suggested we have the contests between 2-3. Those who bake will need to
provide signs what the dessert includes.
Ruth
is going to double check with the caterers if they bring their own grills
and what the price would be if they do. Also she was going to check with
them about bringing soda.
We will need to bring our own ice and tubs to keep the beverages cold.
Ruth was also going to check out getting some games for the children.
NEW
MEMBERS:
The new committee members will be invited to the next meeting that takes
place on June 30, 2005. Ewa declined to be a part of the committee as
she and Lolly work in the same department. Susan Tucker of SML agreed
to fill the vacant M&P slot for next year. Maryetta Russell of SML
will take Ewa’s place as a C&T member.
STAFF
SURVEY: Kathleen heard back from Katie Bauer. Katie corrected the
survey after getting feedback from the committee and it will be sent out
as soon as Kathleen can confirm with Katie that the site is prepared to
track responses.
RED
CROSS BLOOD DRIVE:
Joan Bennett of the Red Cross came to speak about the upcoming blood drive.
The blood drive is scheduled for July 19, 2005 in the Lecture Hall at
SML. From 10-3:15. Their goal is to have 70-75 appointments which usually
garners 60 people and 45 pints of blood. In Connecticut 600 pints of blood
are needed everyday.
You can donate blood if you are a diabetic, have high or low blood pressure
or if you have a tattoo. The restrictions on the tattoo have changed in
recent years. If you have spent up to three months in the United Kingdom
or if you lived in Europe from 1980-present, you are not eligible to donate.
The new research on Mad Cow disease prompted them to change restrictions.
When
people donate they need a picture id. Ruth Carruth will be the point person
to remind the donor that they signed up and when their appointment is.
The committee members will need to staff the registration table, the canteen
and the sign in desk. The shifts will probably be 1 hour increments.
NEXT MEETING: Will
be on June 30, 2005 at 2 pm place TBA
