Members present: Patrick Butler, Ruth Carruth, Tara Kennedy, David McMahon, Aubrey Novak, Michael Rush, Maryetta Russell, Susan Tucker.
Members Absent: Bernadette Cioffi, Pamela Clifford, Kevin Glick, Lolly Lee, Cesar Zapata.
Meeting convened at 2:00 p.m.
STAFF ART EXHIBIT :
Aubrey reported that it went well. For next year, it should be longer.
Next year's chair should reserve the location well in advance to secure a full month.
HOLIDAY PARTY :
Will be held December 14 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Beinecke.
Patrick will contact the AULs to let them know.
Ruth will contact Diane Turner about the budget.
Last year's plate crisis was discussed and the resolution is to get very small plates.
Last year catered by La Cuisine with alcohol from the Wine Thief.
HOLIDAY RAFFLE :
Michael will Chair the event.
Each association member will visit three merchants for donations.
Raffle tickets will be sold starting two weeks before the party, so donations will need to be sought starting around Thanksgiving.
A better vessel for containing raffle tickets was discussed - maybe a big popcorn tin.
BOOK DRIVE :
Going well. Books can be stored in the LiSA closet. Adult book donations will be saved for a future book drive.
NEW STAFF RECEPTION :
Kevin is chair. The date is set for sometime in October. Catering needs to be determined.
VOUCHER PROGRAM :
Vouchers can be purchased to give to the homeless for goods or services at local establishments. The law school runs a program every year, in the past we've helped promote it. We need to find out if we can do more in the library - maybe somehow sell the vouchers ourselves. The event will need a chair.
ASSOCIATION CO-CHAIR:
No volunteers.
STANDING EVENTS :
New Staff Reception (Spring): Maryetta will co-chair. Chair yet to be determined.
Food Drive: Aubrey will chair and Susan will co-chair.
We might need to look to non-member volunteers to help with events. Ruth will send out list of events that still need volunteers.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Library Outreach: Patrick wants to find ways to include non-Sterling people in events.
Open Houses: One event will be planned each month at one of the satellite libraries. It will be low budget, with cookies and such. Ruth will check with Diane Turner.
Nooks and Crannies Tours: Consensus is that we should have more tours. Maybe we can arrange some tours in the headquarters of the various secret societies.
Diaper Drive: Shot down by Danuta and Diane.
Dwight Hall Alternate Christmas Fair: For donations to various charitable organizations. Maybe we can help promote.
Hurricane Relief: We will work with the union or another interdepartmental effort. Ruth'll look into it.
Next Meeting: September 15, 2005 in Machine City .
