BOOK DRIVE:
There was some confusion about the book drive as LiSA had scheduled one to benefit the New Haven Reads program from August 29 th to September 9 th . There is currently a book drive going on to benefit both the United Way program and the Hurricane Katrina victims. Children's books are wanted for these drives. Members responsible for outlying locations will check to see that it is okay to continue collecting book donations and also to check if these locations need boxes or need to be emptied. The question of whether or not magazines would be appropriate to donate was raised by Cesar . Tara mentioned that the LiSA closet has a leak in the duct work.
HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORT:
There was also some confusion about taking the checks and how to get Yale's matching donation. The process is: photocopy the check and attach it to a completed form that can be printed from the Katrina Relief website. The copied check and form go to Cynthia Smith at the Comptroller's Office while we will turn in the actual checks to Ruth at the end of September.
NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
The date will be October 24 th , from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, in the Sterling Lecture Hall. We have more employees to introduce during this reception, but we are still planning to order less food since there was so much left over at the last one. LiSA members will need to assist with set up and clean up. Catering will be done by Yale Catering, but we still need to decide where to get the cake from. Local businesses Lucibello's and Chestnut Foods were suggested since Julia's is not a local bakery. During the last term we voted to approve an addendum to the charter requiring us to purchase locally as much as possible in order to support New Haven.
COMMITTEE CO-CHAIR:
We still need a LiSA member to act as co-chair this year and to serve as chair the following year. If there are no volunteers a member will be nominated or a name will be drawn from a hat.
STANDING EVENTS:
Mike Rush will chair the next Field Day to take place at College Woods in summer 2006. He will look into available dates and avoid the various conferences that occur during the summer. Tara Kennedy will chair the Staff Art Exhibit. She will contact Amanda about reserving a period of time (perhaps one month) for the display cases in the corridor. There has been no additional information yet about the next blood drive.
Next Meeting: September 30, 2005 in Machine City .
