Meeting convened at 2:00 p.m.
NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
Kevin reported that everyone seemed to enjoy the reception. He thanked everyone for their help with the event. He mentioned that we might want to keep in mind the following things:
- No "fire flame" is allowed in the Memorabilia Room.
- Memorabilia room is not large enough for reception. People tend to congregate in the back making it difficult to hear. Possibly we should look into another place to hold the reception. A suggestion was made to have it at SSL. Committee for spring reception will look into this and report back to the committee.
- This year we tried a new baker - Chestnut Foods. Both cakes were difficult to cut because of the soft frosting. A suggestion was made to have cupcakes instead of a cake.
- There was extra food left over. When ordering we might want to decrease the amount of cheese, crackers, fruit, and veggies and if a "flame" is allowable, order more hot hors d'oeuvres.
HOLIDAY PARTY:
Tara and Patrick reported they will be sending out "Save the Date" email through YULIB for the Christmas Party. The Party will be held on December 14 at Beinecke from 4pm-6pm. In the email they will ask if anyone is interested in making a dessert for the party.
HOLIDAY RAFFLE:
Mike will send out an email to the members asking them to solicit the businesses in the Yale community. He has last years list of what places donated and what gifts were given for the holiday raffle. It was decided that we would begin soliciting the businesses the first week in November. Bernadette mentioned that HR would compile a packet for each LiSA member. The packet would contain five letters asking for donations and five letters thanking them for their donation. Bernadette will let the members know when the packets can be picked up in the LAS office. Mike will also email people who volunteered to help out at the Committee Fair and ask them if they would like to help with soliciting various businesses for our holiday raffle. If they are interested, Bernadette will send them a packet. A discussion followed that some people won more than one raffle prize last year. It was decided that as long as they purchased tickets it did not make any difference if they won once or three times - they were still entitled to the raffle prize. The cutoff date for the raffle tickets will be fifteen minutes before the Holiday Party starts. Cost of tickets is still to be determined. Columbus House will be the recipient of the holiday raffle.
FOOD DRIVE FOR CT FOOD BANK :
Aubrey, Susan and Pam will start the Monday after Thanksgiving soliciting the library staff for canned goods for the CT Food Bank. An email will be sent out library-wide. The food will be stored in the LiSA closet. Kevin mentioned that MSSA has large boxes that we can use to collect the food. The food will be picked up the Friday before the holiday. More details at our next meeting.
FUNDRAISING FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS IN AFGANISTAN AND PAKISTAN :
Although these are both great ideas, it was decided to table this matter for a future meeting.
Next Meeting: November 10, 2005 in Machine City.
