November 10, 2005
SML Machine City

Members present: Patrick Butler, Ruth Carruth, Kevin Glick, Tara Kennedy, Lolly Lee, Aubrey Novak, Mike Rush, Maryetta Russell, Susan Tucker, Cesar Zapata .

Members Absent: Bernadette Cioffi, Pamela Clifford, David McMahon.

Guest: Diane Turner

Meeting convened at 2:00 p.m.

HOLIDAY RAFFLE:
Mike handed out the raffle tickets. This year we will sell them at $1.00 per ticket instead of special prices for multiple tickets. He also asked that we have the staff members write their name, department, and extension clearly enough for us to read the information. We will start selling the tickets after the Thanksgiving break. Mike has more tickets if we sell our first batch .

DIANE TURNER :
Diane attended our meeting today to personally thank us for all the contributions that LiSA has made. She also suggested that we need to think seriously before we continue to take on more and more projects. Perhaps the role of philanthropy should not be part of our work. This is particularly in reference to our efforts in supporting the many natural disasters that have occurred in the last several months. Ruth suggested that we need a plan of action for going forward. The number of requests for our efforts far exceeds what our time constraints are.

HOLIDAY PARTY:
There will be a Santa Claus this year. One of the guards from the Beinecke has volunteered but will need a costume. There was discussion about where Santa should stand. It was suggested that he stand downstairs this year. Aubrey has volunteered to take pictures. She has a digital camera, and Maryetta will check to see if there is a Polaroid in LAS. Cesar volunteered to bring videos for the children. Tara reported that there have been a few volunteers for desserts .

FOOD DRIVE FOR CT FOOD BANK :
The food drive should start Monday, November 28 th with boxes in 10 libraries. We also discussed supporting a different community organization in the future .

OTHER NEWS:
Our budget for next year will remain the same. Ruth said that in the future we need to purchase flowers through Vinnie in the Business Office .
