MEMBERS PRESENT: Melissa Vantine, Gareth Gibson, Sarah Burge, Paula Zyats,
Susan Tucker, Tara Kennedy, David McMahon, Pamela Clifford, Michael Rush, Andrew Gray.

MEMBERS ABSENT: Kathryn James, Josephine Laursen, Maryetta Russell.

Meeting convened at 2:00 PM. David McMahon opened the meeting with a request for a minute-taker; Paula volunteered.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
LiSA needs a Co-Chair and Secretary. Co-Chair needs to be a new person, as the current second-year people will be gone next year. No volunteers were forthcoming, so the issue will wait till next meeting.

MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
Chair spoke of past projects including Indonesian Tsunami Relief, Hurricane Katrina Relief, Columbus House Book Drive , United Way Drive, Food Drive , Blood Drive , New Staff Reception, Holiday Party & Gift Raffle, Nooks & Crannies tours.

David asked about the suitability of the current meeting time and place, ie, biweekly, Thursdays at 2pm-3pm. Day and time are fine with members. There were a number of suggestions from Pam, Paula, Sarah and Melissa, and Gareth-for the Law School Dining Hall, Hall of Graduate Studies, Medical Library Conference Room (call Sarah to set up), or the top of Kline Science.

STAFF FIELD DAY:
Mike Rush gave a brief history of the event, leading to the selection of location for this year's Field Day, which is to be held at East Rock Park (College Woods), including use of Alice Prochaska's swimming pool. He has set up a lifeguard and caterer for the event.

He suggested 2pm as a time to walk folks over to Alice 's pool for a swim. (agreed by all to be a good time). Tara to go to BJs to pick up paper goods, soda, cookies, etc.

Susan mentioned that she has been in contact with the nature center next to the Pavilion in College Woods, to see if it could be open to staff to view the exhibits; will get back to Mike on that. Mike asked about activities for kids? Water balloons and bubbles were suggested. Set-up, Clean up: Tara, Paula, David and Mike volunteered.

BLOOD DRIVE:
Pamela talked about the Blood Drive on July 25. She has put up posters throughout campus buildings about the Drive. She still needs folks to cover time slots (12-1 pm, 3-4). Gareth and Tara among others volunteered to fill in. So far, 12 folks have signed up to donate blood.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
To be held on Wednesday, August 30, from 3:30 till 6pm, in the Selin Courtyard. Maryetta and David are chairing the event, which still needs some planning. They will need help on the day of the event, with getting ice cream from Ashleys. David needs to find out more about the budget. He asks if there is anyone who knows of musicians on staff who might volunteer to play during the Ice Cream Social?

NOOKS & CRANNIES:
David solicited for ideas from new members to organize, and suggested new members look at the website for old ideas. There is no set schedule for these tours, the only rule is not to have more than one per week. Some suggestions from the new members included: Woolsey Organ, Bell Tower, BAC Conservation lab, Yale Art Gallery Conservation lab, and the Peabody (again). Gareth mentioned that during the last tour, which was through the Preservation Department, time ran out and no one was able to visit the Conservation lab; he suggested that the order of the tour be reversed next time. Tara agreed.

Next meeting: July 27, location TBD, to plan the Ice Cream Social.
