MEMBERS PRESENT: Sarah Burge, Gareth Gibson, Andrew Gray, Kathryn James, David McMahon, Mike Rush, Maryetta Russell, Susan Tucker, Paula Zyats.

ALSO PRESENT: Diane Turner.

MEMBERS ABSENT: Tara Kennedy, Pina Laursen, Melissa VanTine, Pamela Clifford.

Meeting convened at 2 PM.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
The Social went well, without complaints. Folks remarked on the fantastic music provided by a harpist. Maryetta mentioned that the aprons still needed to be picked up from the cleaners (which she will take care of). David asked if there were any ideas about better planning for ice cream replenishing trips during the event, as the ice cream seemed to run perilously low in the middle-also, toppings went very quickly. Mike Rush mentioned that there were too many beverages provided, next year there should be less. Andrew thought that the balloons were great for the kids, and the disposable tank purchased from BJ's was a great idea and good money-saver. Maryetta agreed. In terms of scheduling, David thought that at least a week earlier would be better, so that the staff's school-age kids would be certain not to be in school yet. Diane Turner agreed, and suggested that perhaps the time frame should be shorter as well, say, 3:30-5:30 next year. Diane thought the event was great, and agreed that it will be run by LiSA from now on, with Administrative support.

Diane also suggested doing away with the annual Staff Field Day, citing low turn-out and high cost, not to mention wasted food (even though unused food is always donated to a charity, it is still paid for by the Association). Perhaps, instead, the Ice Cream Social, which is always a good success, can be enhanced instead. Members concurred that the Field Day is a lot of work with little return. Enhancements for the Ice Cream Social could include more entertainment (clown or magician), pie and brownies (good one, Andrew!), and more music.

DAY OF CARING BOOK DRIVE:
Diane asked LiSA to promote the annual fall United Way/Yale/New Haven Reads Book Drive, which Andrew Gray and Ruth Carruth are organizing. Melissa suggested making posters with pictures of folks donating books-Diane and Andrew agreed. Andrew says that he has a poster image that he can email, and David said he would post it on YULib from LiSA.

NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
To be held some time in October, date to be decided. David asked for a Chair to volunteer to organize the event. Paula volunteered.

A discussion followed, highlighting past reception locations, caterers, and bakers. (President's Room, Woolsey Hall, Sheffield Sterling Strathcona Hall, Lecture Hall, Cranberries, Chestnut Foods, Yale Catering, etc.). Maryetta offered to check the AULs calendars so that a date can be chosen when they are all available. Susan offered Paula assistance in making arrangements for the Reception if she needs help .

Holiday party, usually held in the first week of December.

The Raffle, which is held at the same time, but considered a separate event (to benefit Columbus House, although David and Mike asked for other charity suggestions).

Nooks & Crannies-Maryetta will send out a YULib for the September 18 tour of LSF at 2 pm, own transportation necessary.

Food Drive, Nov-Dec, to benefit the CT Foodbank.
