Meeting convened at 2 PM.
<NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
Paula reported that most of the details for the Fall New Staff Reception have been taken care of. The reception will be in the Aurelian Room (405) in SSS from 3-5 on Oct. 23. We will be using Yale Catering, which she chose over Chestnut Foods due to the price and convenience of having them provide linens, etc., that Chestnut Foods would not. Paula still needs to arrange for the cake and the flowers. Susan, Pam and Pina recommended the Yale Catering carrot cake. Maryetta said that Andrew will make name tags for the new staff and will speak with Paula about details.
HOLIDAY PARTY:
Melissa reported that the Holiday Party will be held at the Beinecke Library on Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 6. Mike will speak with Joe Sicignano, a security guard at Beinecke, about reprising his role as Santa at this year's party.
HOLIDAY RAFFLE:
Mike summarized how the holiday raffle will work. He explained that LiSA members will solicit donations from staff and local businesses, beginning after the next LiSA meeting. LiSA members will begin selling raffle tickets after Thanksgiving. Mike will meet with Kathryn before the next meeting to sort out details.
FOOD DRIVE:
The Connecticut Food Bank food drive has been postponed. Maryetta spoke with the director about running our food drive in November. Given the high volume of food donated in November, the food bank politely asked if we could hold our food drive in April, when their need is much greater. David agreed that this makes more sense, giving us a spring event and helping out the food bank.
NOOKS & CRANNIES TOURS:
Maryetta reported that only 5 people attended the recent LSF tour. She suggested that we wait a while before having another tour. The lack of transportation was cited as a problem. Pam suggested we plan carpools for the next LSF tour, but insurance concerns might make that impossible. Paula asked if the tour could be held first thing in the morning, so people could go to LSF on their way to work, rather than having to leave mid day.
Gareth is still working on another tour of the Organ. Mike suggested that at this point he should try for something in the spring. Mike reported that the second tour of the Map Collection was well attended and interesting. David mentioned that Ruth is still planning a tour of the Elizabethan Club.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 pm.
