LiSA Minutes
February 22, 2007
Art & Architecture Penthouse Cafe
MEMBERS PRESENT: David McMahon, Gareth Gibson, Andrew Gray, Mike Rush, Kathryn James, Paula Zyats.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Pina Laursen, Maryetta Russell, Melissa Vantine, Sarah Burge, Tara Kennedy, Susan Tucker, Pamela Clifford.
Meeting convened at 2:08 PM.
NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
Gareth reported that SSS is no longer available to be booked for events. The date of the Spring New Staff Reception will be Friday, April 27, from 3-5. The SML Lecture Hall is booked as a backup, but the preference is to hold the reception outside of SML. Gareth will look into the President's Room. There is a $3 charge per head, but the budget should be able to accomodate that, especially if the menu has less heavy hors d'ouevres and more sweets/pastries. Paula advocated for a lighter selection of food, with the focus on sweets and coffee, rather than heavy things like dumplings and satay. Other location possibilities are the Hall of Graduate Studies and the Beinecke Mezzanine. Alternative locations for the Holiday Party were also discussed.
SPRING FOOD DRIVE:
Paula sent out a Yulib announcement on Wednesday. Boxes are still needed, but Pina is making arrangements for the boxes. There are still questions regarding where to store food at Sterling. The issue is that four boxes have been allocated for SML, and those will surely fill up before collection. The LiSA closet will have to be used. Gareth volunteered a hand truck he has access to.
INTERNATIONAL PARTY:
David had no update on the International Party. Paula noted that because of the extended Friday hours, it won't be in the nave as in years past, but rather restricted to Manuscripts and Archives, SML Lecture Hall, the Memorabilia Room, and the Wall Street entrance hallway to the turnstiles.
NOOKS & CRANNIES:
Via email Pam volunteered Cesar for a Law Library tour at noon on any Wednesday in March or April. David selected March 21 as the date for the Law Library Tour. Mike arranged tours of the Map Collection and Music Library on June 7 and April 10, respectively.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Mike mentioned the need to start planning the expanded Ice Cream Social, which will pick up some of the slack left by the discontinued Staff Field Day. A date and caterer will need to be set soon. Ideally the date will coincide with the Staff Art Exhibit, and David thinks that a time has already been reserved for that. David will put the Ice Cream Social on the agenda for the next meeting. Gareth also suggested creating brochures for the Staff Art Exhibit.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:45 pm.
