Medical Library Meeting Room

MEMBERS PRESENT: David McMahon, Melissa VanTine, Gareth Gibson, Maryetta Russell, Pamela Clifford, Michael Rush, Andrew Gray, Susan Tucker.

MEMBERS ABSENT: Pina Laursen, Tara Kennedy, Kathryn James.

Meeting convened at 2:05 PM.

FOOD DRIVE:
The spring food drive collected 1060 pounds of food, making 815 meals for the Connecticut Food Bank. This was triple what we collected during the last food drive in 2005. There was good turnout at all libraries, but especially at Law and SML. Paula credited much of the success to her persistent and well timed emails. Future organizers should follow her example and send reminder emails prior to the weekend so that people will remember when they do their grocery shopping. Maryetta will draw up an outline of instructions for future event chairs.

NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
The new staff reception will be held on April 27, from 3-5, in the Hall of Graduate Studies Room 211. Gareth reported that most of the preparations are set, except for sending the final images for printing on the cake to Yale Catering. We can expect ca. 25 new staff, plus supervisors, AULs, LiSA members, and other staff members. Gareth has ordered food for 150. He will send email reminders beginning today and several times next week. The room is free, but Gareth will arrange maintenance. Volunteers for setup included Maryetta, Pam, David, and Andrew. Volunteers for cleanup included David, Melissa, and Mike.

NOOKS & CRANNIES:
Mike reported that the Music Library tour was a great success. Gareth is planning a Preservation Department tour and is waiting to talk with Thomas Murray about setting up another tour of the Woolsey Hall organ. Paula suggested a tour of the Yale Art Gallery furniture collection. Ideas for other potential tours included the Yale Sustainable Farm and the Yale Observatory.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL/STAFF ART EXHIBIT:
Kathryn and Sarah are co-charing the Ice Cream Social. David reported that no date has been set but it will be held in August at some point. Andrew offered to help given his experience plannign previous socials for LAS. David will follow up with Debbie McGraw about the budget for the Ice Cream Social. Melissa is organizing the staff art exhibit. David will put her in touch with Aubrey Novak, who organized the last staff exhibit, and Amanda Patrick, who oversees the cases. Gareth had previously suggested creating a pamphlet of artist bios to advertise the staff art exhibit, and he and Melissa will pursue that idea.
