LiSA Minutes
July 12, 2007
Music Library - ML106
Meeting convened at 2:15 p.m. by Gareth Gibson
ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
LiSA needs volunteers for a Co-Chair and Secretary. Co-chair needs to be a new person, as the current second year people will be gone next year. Since many members were absent from the meeting, we will bring up the election of officers again at the next meeting.
STAFF ART EXHIBIT:
Melissa reported that thirty staff members had signed up to display their art in Sterling Memorial Library during the month of August. A pamphlet containing short biographies of the artist and a description of the art work will be compiled and made available through Yulib. Daniel suggested that the pamphlet also be placed electronically on the LiSA website.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
The Ice Cream Social will be held on Wednesday, August 8, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the Selin Courtyard. Gareth met with Diane Turner who increased the budget allotment from $1500 to $2000 since the Staff Field Day was suspended. With the increased budget, we may be able to offer additional food options such as hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and sodas. No open flames, including Sterno heat, are allowed in Sterling Library so any hot food items will have to be cooked beforehand. We plan to have three musical groups (including the harpist from last year) and some children's activities. The LiSA members will be responsible for assisting the housekeeping and maintenance crews, purchasing supplies at BJ's, coordinating the ice cream scoopers and other event participants. We will discuss particular assignments at the next meeting.
BLOOD DRIVE:
Gareth discussed the responsibilities for LiSA if we sponsor a blood drive. The Red Cross coordinates the activity, but we would provide juice, snacks, and volunteers. This would be an activity that could take place in either September or October.
FOOD DRIVE:
In the past, LiSA has sponsored a canned food drive to benefit a local group providing services to needy persons. LiSA would provide and maintain donation containers dispersed throughout campus for a limited time, perhaps in late October or early November.
HOLIDAY STAFF PARTY:
Gareth discussed the holiday staff party given in December. The key to having a successful event is to begin planning early. The group discussed venues for the party other than the Beinecke Plaza and would continue to review options based upon size, cost, convenience, and catering limitations.
NOOKS & CRANNIES TOURS:
Gareth passed out a list of possible old and new places for Nooks and Crannies tours. There is no set schedule for these tours, but we would like to have two a month. LiSA members were urged to poll other staff members to see what new places (and old) would be interesting to people and could fit within our scheduled restraints.
MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
Gareth asked about the suitability of the current meeting time and place, i.e., biweekly on Thursday at 2-3 p.m.. Day and time are fine with members. Martha Repp will investigate the possibility of the August 9 meeting held at the British Arts Center.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:55 pm.
