LiSA Minutes
October 4, 2007
Sterling Medical Library - Conference Room
Meeting convened at 2:10 p.m. by Gareth Gibson.
Attending: Gareth Gibson, Laura Tatum, Melissa Van Tine, Soli Johnson, and Andrew Gray.
COMMITTEE FAIR :
Committee Fair is Monday, October 22nd. The event is organized by Michael Scott and Sharon Tarascio. Martha Repp and Soli Johnson are the LiSA chairs for this event and will sit at the LiSA table during the fair to promote committee membership. Melissa plans to make a brochure for the event, updating the one that has been used in the past. There will be a LiSA slide show on a laptop computer showing images of LiSA-sponsored events. More photos are needed for this slideshow; LiSA members with photos of LiSA-sponsored events are encouraged to contribute same. Melissa also volunteered to make a poster for the event. The event will last 2.5 hours, from 2:00-4:30 pm. Laura Tatum volunteered to procure food for the event, and it was later agreed that Martha Repp would accompany her on this trip.
HOLIDAY PARTY:
The Holiday Party will be held on December 19th at the Beinecke Library. There was much discussion of past caterers, what sort of alcohol to get prices for, and from which caterers to obtain bids. It was agreed that bids will be solicited from Yale Catering and Le Petit Gourmet, and prices will also be sought for liquor as well as beer and wine. We also agreed that decorating the railings around the mezzanine would reduce the risk of accidents involving children. This would also serve the purpose of generally updating LiSA’s existing stock of holiday décor.
Much discussion took place regarding options for keeping children at the party entertained. Suggestions included a staff member reading holiday- and winter-themed stories to children; classic holiday videos; the Santa giving small gifts to children at the door. Further suggestions included asking the Santa to read to the children, and this led to discussions about who would play Santa this year. Melissa Van Tine agreed to send out a message to YULib asking staff for suggestions and for volunteers to play Santa. The need to rent a Santa suit early, as well as to purchase new rolls of tickets for the raffle, was also brought up.
NEW STAFF RECEPTION :
The New Staff Reception will be held on November 28th. Andrew is coordinating all logistics for this event, while Gareth plans to procure the food. There is a $1500 budget for this event.
WEB PAGE:
Nothing new was reported about updating the LiSA webpage. Gareth suggested that a new face was needed for a new LiSA committee next year and put that forward as a goal for the update. It was agreed that information on the site should include the LiSA bylaws (including any changes to be made, such as adding a treasurer to the roster of officers), the mission statement, an events list, a photo archive, and a “back page” that would serve as a clearinghouse for information about planning events.
MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
The next meeting will be Thursday, October 16 at the British Arts Center.
