LiSA Minutes
October 18, 2007
British Arts Center - Founders Room
Meeting convened at 2:07 p.m. by Martha Repp.
Attending: Martha Repp, Barbara Heck, Melissa Van Tine, Clayton McGahee, Daniel Hartwig, Soli Johnson, and Andrew Gray.
BOOK DRIVE:
Andrew Gray reported the results of the Book Drive—1,888 books were collected at Yale University sites and donated to New Haven Reads. The total far exceeded last year’s of 1,300. Andrew was pleased with the success and thanked all the donors.
COMMITTEE FAIR:
Martha and Soli then reported on the status of the Committee Fair. It will be held on October 22, 2007 in the SML Lecture Hall from 2:00 to 4:30. A tri-fold pamphlet developed by Martha and Soli was passed out to Committee members. Members complimented them on the design and content. Melissa has prepared two posters about LiSA and will have a PowerPoint presentation available for passersby to view. Andrew will co-ordinate the food and beverages and raffle drawing. Soli and Martha will represent LiSA at the Fair.
NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
Andrew then told us about the New Staff Reception for November 28, 2007 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the SML Lecture Hall. He will handle the preparation of new staff biographies and general arrangements. Gareth is responsible for food. Since Gareth was absent, we will discuss the specifics of Committee member responsibilities at the next meeting.
HOLIDAY PARTY:
Barbara and Melissa discussed the upcoming Holiday Party. The event will take place at the Beinecke Library on December 19, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.. They are awaiting information and bids from two potential caterers and will report the findings back to the group. Melissa had spoken with a children’s librarian at New Haven Public Library about possible activities. The librarian had suggested jugglers, board games, and crafts as appropriate ideas. Melissa and Barbara will follow up on her suggestions and also talk with possible Santas. Barbara suggested that the Committee prepare a poster or sign highlighting raffle prize donors and place it in the Beinecke entryway to recognize their support for the Holiday raffle. The suggestion was accepted and members will mention this to organizations as Committee members begin canvassing the area for donations. Kathryn had sent a message that anyone desiring to modify their canvass area could easily do so by sending her an e-mail.
LiSA WEB PAGE:
Clayton spoke about the LiSA web page. He has recently updated the information on the site and asked Committee members to look at the page and let him know about additional items or changes. Melissa mentioned that she thought an intranet or other mechanism allowing online storage of scanned LiSA materials would be helpful. Andrew said that it was possible to establish a secured site on the Library web pages so only LiSA members could add and edit materials. Finally, Clayton said that notices for Nook & Crannies Tours would be placed on the LiSA website the same day that notice of the particular tour is issued on Yulib.
NOOKS & CRANNIES:
The next tour will be of the Collection of Musical Instruments and the New Haven Museum and Historical Society.
BLOOD DRIVE :
Clayton will speak with the Red Cross blood drive representative. It appears that the Hall of Graduate Studies is the likely location contingent upon Red Cross approval after the site visit. The Drive would likely be in the spring of 2008.
MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
The next meeting will be Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Kline Science Tower from 2-3. Gareth will contact members about the exact room location.
