November 1, 2007

Meeting convened at 2:08 p.m. by Gareth Gibson.

Attending: Gareth Gibson, Barbara Heck, Melissa Van Tine, Laura Tatum, Clayton McGahee, Daniel Hartwig, Pina Laursen, Martha Repp, and Andrew Gray

COMMITTEE FAIR:
Gareth reported that the turnout was low, but those that came seemed interested. He said that Diane Turner suggested afterwards that the Committee Fair might be combined with another event earlier in the year to get a better turnout. Pina suggested combining it with the Staff Art Exhibit and supply pamphlets for both. The Committee thanked Melissa for the preparation of the LiSA Committee poster which could also be re-used next year with a few changes.

NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
Gareth will look into the catering later in the week and report back with the exact budget numbers. The set up will be similar to last timetables in the middle, food and beverage placed strategically to entice staff to stay, biographies of new staff read by AULs, and flowers. Andrew is handling most of it as part of his position in the Library.

HOLIDAY PARTY:
Barbara and Melissa discussed the upcoming Holiday Party. Laura will investigate the purchase/rental of some type of child barrier for use on the mezzanine. Plastic will be used for beverages to improve safety and cut costs. Melissa discussed the various music options, with price being an important factor. She took advice from several members about possible leads and will continue contacting bands/groups.

HOLIDAY RAFFLE:
Kathryn had sent an e-mail reminder earlier in the week. She has a list of last year’s contributors if needed by area canvassers. Melissa will send another e-mail soliciting staff gifts and asked members to consider placing a notice in their department. Martha will be in charge of gift retention since Kathryn will be out on maternity leave soon.

BLOOD DRIVE :
Clayton did not have anything new to report since he is still waiting to hear from the Red Cross if they have approved the proposed location-Hall of Graduate Studies.

MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
The next meeting will be Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Bass Library. Gareth will contact members about the room location.
