LiSA Minutes
February 28, 2008
Medical Library Meeting Room
Meeting convened at 2:10 p.m. by Gareth Gibson.
Attending: Gareth Gibson, Barbara Heck, Daniel Hartwig, Laura Tatum, Melissa VanTine, Andrew Gray, Clayton McGahee, and Martha Repp.
ATTENDANCE:
Gareth requested again that if members know that they will not be able to attend a meeting that they contact the chair.
VACANCY OF CO-CHAIR:
Gareth had contacted Soli about the Co-Chair vacancy that will exist when Martha leaves Yale. Soli wanted to assess the situation and will get back to Gareth before the next meeting. Andrew Gray said that no similar vacancy had existed before.
NOOKS & CRANNIES:
Clayton mentioned that the YULIBL message announcing the Nooks and Crannies tour of the New Haven Historical Society tour on March 12, 2008 would go out today. Laura will determine if a tour of Ingalls Rink can be arranged before the end of the semester. Gareth will send out the spreadsheet indicating possible venues to members to see if the two tours per month goal can be met.
INTERNATIONAL PARTY:
The Party is tomorrow (Friday, February 29, 2008) from 5:30 to 8:00 in the evening at Sterling Memorial Library. The Library will be divided into rooms featuring foods and music from different continents, tentatively arranged as follows: L&B (Asian), Nave (Americas and Antartica), Lecture Hall (Europe, Africa, and Australia). Gareth requested volunteers for setup and takedown.
BLOOD DRIVE:
Clayton, as organizer of the Blood Drive, reported that 15 people had already arranged appointments with the Red Cross. Clayton mentioned that the Red Cross would coordinate the activity, but LiSA and GSA would provide juice, snacks, and volunteers to man the registration and snack tables. The sign up sheet for volunteers was passed around to the members.
In the past, LiSA has sponsored a canned food drive to benefit a local food bank. Gareth will make the initial contact with the Connecticut Food Bank and Laura will chair this event. LiSA will provide and maintain donation containers dispersed throughout campus for a limited time period, perhaps in late March or early April. Anyone on campus may place food donation items in the bins for pickup and distribution.
NEW STAFF RECEPTION:
Andrew will find out what the exact date of the ‘spring’ reception will be for new Library staff.
CHRISTMAS RAFFLE:
Columbus House sent us a recognition certificate for our support and donation of the proceeds from the Christmas Raffle. Melissa developed a ‘thank you’ letter for businesses that donated gifts which was mailed out to them this week. The members thanked Melissa for her initiative and effort.
APPRECIATION:
On behalf of the LiSA members, Gareth thanked Martha Repp for her service this year as a LiSA member, especially her efforts with the Christmas Raffle. We all wish Martha ‘good luck’ as she leaves her employment at Yale.
MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
The next meeting will be March 13, 2008. Gareth will investigate the possibility of meeting in the Kline Science Tower and send an e-mail to all members.
