LiSA Minutes
July 3, 2008
SML Room 409
Meeting convened at 2:10 p.m. by Soli Johnson.
MEMBERS PRESENT :
Soli Johnson, Barbara Heck, Laura Tatum, Rebecca Hamilton, Gennifer Baker, Clayton McGahee, Mary Jo Agata, and Abdul Ahad Hannawi.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
Gennifer was elected co-chair. Since some members were absent, we will reconsider the election of Treasurer, Secretary, and Webmaster again at the next meeting.
STAFF ART EXHIBIT:
Clayton will co-chair this event. He will contact Melissa for additional assistance if needed since she organized the inaugural show last year and has expressed a willingness to help the new organizer. The show will take place in the exhibit corridor of Sterling Memorial Library during the month of August and will feature artwork by Library staff.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
Abdul and Rebecca will co-chair the Social to be held sometime in August when all the AULs are able to come. The LiSA members will be responsible for assisting the housekeeping and maintenance crews, purchasing supplies, coordinating the ice cream scoopers and other event participants. We will discuss particular assignments at the next meeting. Barbara mentioned that we should check with Diane Turner about the financial allotment of funds for the event.
FOOD DRIVE:
Laura briefed the group on the LiSA Food Drive. In the past, LiSA has sponsored a canned food drive to benefit the Connecticut Food Bank, a local group providing food to needy persons. Laura mentioned an article in the New York Times describing the increased difficulties that food banks nationwide are experiencing due to high fuel and commodity prices. In addition to the usual practice of LiSA providing and maintaining donation containers dispersed throughout campus, the Food Bank has developed a ‘virtual food bank’ where monetary donations for particular items may be made. It is hoped that use of the virtual bank will encourage increased participation by Yale and reduce the labor necessary for LiSA to transport the collected items to the Connecticut Food Bank. Laura will send out a YULib message and ask Andrew Gray to post a link on the Library web site.
NOOKS & CRANNIES:
Soli mentioned that the two Babylonian tours had been consolidated into one tour. The list of possible tours will be circulated at the next meeting. LiSA members were urged to poll other staff to see what new places (and old) would be interesting to people and could fit within our scheduling restraints.
MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
July 17, 2008 in the Bass Library.
