M&PSA continued to play an active role in the Yale Library community this year by organized events that promoted staff morale, collegiality, knowledge and social outreach. These events were the Nooks and Crannies Tours; the New Staff Reception; the Canned Food Drive for the benefit of the Connecticut Food Bank; the Holiday Party with its accompanying rafflefor the benefit of Columbus House; and planning the Staff Arts and Crafts Expo. In addition, we assisted with the fall and the winter Blood Drives and with the Ice Cream Social and held our annual elections in May.

New Staff Reception
M&PSA worked with Library Administrative Services to plan the new staff reception, which was held Tuesday, November 14, 2000, at the Beinecke Library from 4:00 to 5:30. The reception honored some 66 new staff and a total attendance of 3000 people was planned for. A YULIB message was issued to indicate that all staff - and not just new staff - are cordially invited to attend the reception. All agreed the reception was very successful. Elegant name tags were made by M&PSA for new staff, for the supervisors introducing new staff and for M&PSA Council Members. There was some food left over but not much. One problem was that the cakes were not cut early enough to have been completely eaten by the reception's end. It was decided that an M&PSA member should in the future make sure that the cakes are cut at the beginning of the reception so that those people who must leave early can still partake of them.
Canned Food Drive
The canned food drive was sponsored by M&PSA this year and took place December 1-20, 2000, for the benefit of the Connecticut Food Bank. There were drop off locations in eleven locations throughout the library system, and cans were collected at the Holiday Party as well. The cans were brought to Sterling by the Mail Room staff and were collected by the Connecticut Food Bank at the end of the drive.
Holiday Party and Raffle
M&PSA worked with Library Administrative Services to plan the Holiday Party, which was held on Wednesday, December 6, 2000, from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Beinecke Library. The party featured desserts brought in by staff members (with the presence of nuts, dairy products or chocolate listed on a card accompanying the dessert), the keyboard stylings of Patricia Thurston, and Polaroid photographs of Santa (Dan Wade of the Law Library) taken by library staff members. The party was well attended by staff members and their families and the menu was so precisely planned that everyone was well fed and no food was left over. The raffle to benefit Columbus House, a homeless shelter in New Haven, was very successful, yielding a record $1900. Raffle prizes were donated by local merchants and staff members in the form of home made arts and crafts. M&PSA began soliciting merchants for prize donations this year as early as September because it was found that in previous years waiting until late fall resulted in merchants having already given to other charities. We learned that in order to expedite raffle prize distribution, we must ask raffle ticket buyers to fill out name, unit, and phone number on tickets and we should sell only to Yale employees. Further, we should print out a large prizes spreadsheet with room for the winning ticket to be taped next to the relevant prize and we thought that perhaps next year the prizes should be called out in spreadsheet order.
Ice Cream Social/Staff Arts and Crafts Expo
M&PSA Members in July, 2000, helped out with Ice Cream Social by scooping and cleaning up. The Staff Arts and Crafts Expo was planned by M&PSA in 2001 for the months of July and August to coincide with the July 17th Ice Cream Social/Farewell to Univerity Librarian Scott Bennett.
Blood Drives
M&PSA helped out with Blood Drives in October and February by making reminder calls to those who had signed up to donate blood. We received the list of donors and schedule from Human Resources.
Membership and Elections
Member and Chair Rebecca mugridge left Yale in October and was replaced as Chair by Ellen Ellickson and as Member (for one final year) by Lisa Thomas. Newly elected Member Timothy Young declined to serve and was replaced for his two year term by Tracy Thompson.
Our elections were held in May, 2000. There were 105 voters out of the 213 managerial and professional staff members eligible to vote. Four new members were elected for the 2001-2002 year. They are:
