Importing Queries / Filters from Another Access
Database
Yale University Library Shelving Facility
This method is best used AFTER completing your current LSF files (that were
posted in April / May 2001).
- Create your filters as you go through this database, naming them as we talked
in class (choosing a name that makes sense).
- Once you have copied your database up to LFSDONE, rename the copy on your
hard drive to something different, such as lsffilters.mdb. This way, you have
all of your filters for next time.
- When you are informed that a new file has been released onto LSFNEW, download
it as you normally would.
- Open the new LSF file on your PC and click on File, and select "GET
EXTERNAL DATA." A submenu will appear and select "IMPORT" (see
figure below).

- A new window will appear asking you which database you want to import from.
Select your LSFfilter.mdb file and click OK.
- The window that appears next is titled "IMPORT OBJECTS" (see
figure below). Click on the Queries tab and select the queries you created
from the last file. DO NOT EVER IMPORT A TABLE FROM THE OLD FILE -- ONLY QUERIES.
Importing a table will replace your new data with an older set.
Once you have completed the import, these queries will be added to your new
database. This will save you the time and energy of creating the filters/queries
over again.
