PREBULK

For more detail on Endeavor's Prebulk program see page 52.1 in the Technical manual.

Prebulk is a program developed by Endeavor to preprocess records before loading them into the database. Prebulk can be used in the following ways:

  • To check bibliographic import files to remove corrupt records before loading the file into ProdOrbis.
  • To strip unwanted fields/tags from the records before loading into ProdOrbis.
  • To produce an interleaved file of bibs and mfhds to load into ProdOrbis.
  • To check the number of records contained in a MARC record file.

Prebulk must be run from the sbin directory on the server. Before prebulk can run, a configuration file

DBA is using Prebulk to preprocess the database loads listed below.

LC Resource File Loads - Prebulk is used to strip the 850 tag in these files and also to confirm the record count is accurate in the concatenated files. Click here to see the LC Resource File Prebulk config script.

Vendor Bulk Loads - Prebulk is used to strip tags and create an interleaved bib and mfhd file and also to confirm the record count in the concatenated files. The .cfg files for this load are set up to make ON ORDER the default call number with a second indicator of 8. Click here pto see the Vendor Bulk Loads Prebulk config scripts.

GPO Shipping List Loads - Prebulk is used to create an interleaved file of bibs and mfhds, placing the correct location in the mfhd records based on mapping in the config file. Mapping is also set up for multiple holdings to be recorded in the 866 |a of the mfhd. Click here pto see the GPO Shipping List config script.
