MARC RECORDS AND AUTHORITY CONTROL

Authority Control MARC Records / Authority Control at YUL / Record Evaluation

PROCEDURE FOR AUTHORITY CONTROL PROCESSING
OF MARC RECORDS:

If a file of MARC records to be loaded doesn't need MARS processing, Catalog Management notifies Production Systems and the record load can proceed.

If the records do need MARS processing, Catalog Management sends the files to the Backstage Library Works server and notifies Backstage Library Works. When the records have been processed (this may take a few days), Backstage notifies both Production Systems and Catalog Management.

Production Systems then FTPs the records from the Backstage server to one of Yale's servers. Catalog Management picks up the reports. Production Systems coordinates the record loading and notifies Catalog Management and other stakeholders when both the authority and the bibliographic record loads are completed.
