CATALOG MANAGEMENT

Cataloging statistics / Cataloging templates / Contact

Catalog Management works in conjunction with Production Systems in receiving and coordinating MARC record load requests.

All MARC record load requests must be reviewed by both Catalog Management and Production Systems before being added to the record load queue.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Advise selectors on the acquisition of metadata records. Evaluate records for conformance to descriptive and structural metadata standards. Provide information on records available from alternate sources, if any.

• Communicate with selectors and vendors to coordinate the acquisition of records.

• For records provided free of charge without customizations:

  • Edit records and add records to Orbis in Voyager.

• For records provided as a service:

  • Establish a profile for the record set: editing specifications, preferred delivery method, frequency of loads, etc.
  • With Production Systems, coordinate hand-off of records for authority control processing and loading to Orbis.
  • Evaluate metadata records loaded in testing against the specification for the set.
  • Correct errors and exceptions in records loaded in production.
  • Maintain statistics on e-resource record load activity.
• With Production Systems, coordinate the planning, development, and implementation of new procedures for MARC record loads. Communicate new procedures to stakeholders and facilitate discussion.
