Web & Workstation Services Home / Library Systems Office

The Yale University Library Web & Workstation Services section (formerly known as the Workstation Support Group) is part of the Library Systems Office. Current services offered to the Library community include, but are not limited to:

  • Digital Collection design, development and deployment - installation and support of applications designed to support the use of digital images in the classroom and to support the deployment of Library Digital Collections (Examples: The Lewis Walpole Library Digital Collection, African American Studies Digital Collection and, of course, Insight).
  • Support for the workstation infrastruture across the YUL. Currently supporting over 900 workstations - configuration and management of these machines is coordinated through a W&WS-managed OU in the University Active Directory implementation of Windows 2000. The Active Directory implementation allows us to manage access to individual workstations using the University netid and decreases total cost of workstation ownership by allowing us to automatically deploy software installations and updates.
  • Support for the Library Web Developer Community: Including consultation & programming in all web tools currently used in the library. We can assist you with questions concerning: UNIX, HTML, Javascript, Active Server Pages using vbscript or javascript, PHP and Perl. If you'd like to explore an application not currently supported, please e-mail us!
  • Design, implementation and support of web-enabled database applications in support of dynamically generated web sites. Using Microsoft SQL Server - current examples include the Electronic Journals list, Library Staff Directory, Library News, Item Condition Report and Databases & Abstracts. Web-enabled database applications can cut web site support time!
  • PC Database development using MS Access.
  • Consultation services for the University community on the implementation of Windows 2000 'kiosk' (public-use) workstations. We are happy to answer questions and share our documentation with other University IT staff looking to implement public kiosks.
