Web Server Policies:
Note: All Library Web Developers must adhere to the policies listed below. All web sites on the Library Web Server must contain the Required Elements on Library Web Pages.

How do I obtain an account?
Requests should be made in writing (via e-mail) to Web, Workstation & Digital Consulting Services, attention Scott Matheson or Ernie Marinko.

Any requirements before I can get an account?
You must read the policies listed above.

Note: After reading the policies send an e-mail message stating that you have read them to WW&DCS, an account will not be created for you until you have read the policies.

What software do I use to connect to the Library Web Server?
Use Secure Shell, which you can find on all Library Staff Workstations or install from PCAmigo.

What web editors are supported by Web, Workstation & Digital Consulting Services?
Dreamweaver is the supported editor. We do not have a site license for Dreamweaver. It may purchased with department funds or through the equipment request process. Dreamweaver is available in both the CCL and SCML Classrooms.

Where should I put files on the Library Web Server?
Personal pages should be located in your \home directory. Pages that are to be indexed by the server's Search Engine should be located in \usr\web. If you need a directory created in \usr\web, contact Web, Workstation & Digital Consulting Services.

Are there restrictions on what you can load on the server?
Space is always a concern on the Library Web Server. If you are loading pages/images that total more than 10MB, contact WW&DCS first to make sure there is enough room available.

Large numbers of personal photos, movies or music should not be loaded on the Library Web Server. Remember that all staff with netids can create websites on the Pantheon.

Are there other servers I should have accounts on?
If you need to create pages from the web-enabled databases , you will need access to resources.library.yale.edu . See Ernie Marinko or Mike Friscia for more information.
