Laura Tatum begins work as the Saarinen collection project archivist
We are very happy to welcome Laura Tatum back to the library, this time to the staff of Manuscripts and Archives. Laura started Monday, February 14th, as project archivist working on the Eero Saarinen papers. Some of you may remember Laura's previous tenure at the Arts Library as Kress Fellow in 2002, where she worked with their instructional programs and was generously loaned to us to work on the initial transfers of the Saarinen papers. Since leaving Yale, Laura has been project archivist at the Environmental Design Archives at the University of California, Berkeley, where she processed four major architecture and landscape architecture collections.

We are very fortunate to have lured Laura back to Yale for this project and are looking forward to her work in processing one of our most heavily used collections. She can be reached at 432-6514 or at laura.tatum@yale.edu.

Cuban Collection grant from Seaver Institute
The Seaver Institute has awarded $152,432 for a research project, "Visions of Power, Nation and Revolution in Cuba, 1959-1999," that will provide access to materials in the Cuban Collection in Manuscripts and Archives. The collection covers the early years of the Cuban revolution, including documentary footage and photographs that provide important insight into the day-to-day operations of the revolutionaries and offer first-hand accounts of their victories and rise to power. History professor Lillian Guerra, who is conducting the research project, notes that, "Yale's Cuban Collection is immensely valuable for historians of 20th century Cuba and comparative revolutionary movements and scholars from other disciplines who are eager to understand this momentous period in history."
