, Sterling Professor of History at Yale University.
Professor Spence is a noted historian of classical China and the current president of the American Historical Association.

, University Librarian emeritus at Syracuse University,
Dr Stam is a noted librarian, foundation trustee and scholar, whose most recent work has focused on the history of polar exploration.

Academic: What matters to the academy? What trends affect their ability to plan their future research? What will be the most significant challenge to their graduate students over their careers?

Library: What are we already doing - How do we meet the projected needs of our scholars? What are the particular dangers and opportunities? What resources do we have now? What are we planning for the future?

Three speakers presented for 15-20 minutes each followed by one half-hour question/ discussion period. Librarians and scholars were represented on each panel.
