| Finding Aids Online
Some finding aids are currently available online, and there is a project
underway using eXtensible Markup Language (XML) to make many more of them
available on the Web. You may access The Yale University Library EAD Finding
Aid Project:
The database includes finding aids from the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript
Library, Divinity Library Special Collections, Irving S. Gilmore Music
Library, Art Library, and Manuscripts and Archives. The number of finding aids available
in the database increases as retrospective encoding of existing finding
aids takes place and as new finding aids are created. Searching can be
done across all repositories listed above or limited to any.
If a finding aid to a collection is available online, the Orbis record
will contain a note giving the URL for the electronic version. Clicking
on this address will take you to the finding aid.
In Orbis try searching for "Benny Goodman Papers" as a keyword and on
the Set Limits screen highlight Archives and Manuscripts (1 of 2, select
both) and Archives and Manuscripts (2 of 2, select both).
- Click on the MORE LIMITS button
(at the top right of the results list) and look in the Item Type box.
- Highlight Archives and Manuscripts
(1 of 2, select both) hold the Control key and also highlight
Archives and Manuscripts (2 of 2, select both).
(You must select both for this search to be complete.)
- Click the Set Limits button.
- Highlight Keyword (MUST use and/or/not
or " ") and in the Search for box, enter: “Benny
Goodman Papers”
- Click the Search button.
Note that the electronic version of the finding aid can be searched from
the Orbis record by by clicking on the words "Finding Aid".
