OCLC FirstSearch OCLC is another online union catalog with millions of records for books and other materials held in thousands of academic, public, special and national libraries around the world. Known as WorldCat, it provides catalog records for books, maps, sound recordings, musical scores, films, archives, and computer files held in research, corporate, and public libraries, as well as museums, archives and historical societies. There is searching information readily available by clicking on the "Help" button. FirstSearch is OCLC’s interactive online information system. Try the same search as above, using the advanced search screen: keyword = Audubon Society In WorldCat Advanced Search, you can initially limit your search to manuscripts. Under "Limit Type to:" select Archival Materials. Note that the truncation symbol in WorldCat is an asterisk. When presented with the results of this search, click on the title of one record to view the full description of the collection. From this display, it is not always immediately apparent where the collection is located, but by clicking on the "libraries with item" button you will be given information on the location. The display will show an interlibrary loan status, but generally institutions do not lend their manuscript holdings. |
