SAMPLE SEARCHES

These are typical questions that researchers try to answer using collections in Manuscripts and Archives. WIth each question you can see a possible search strategy or helpful hints that may be useful in answering a similar type of question.

1. Undetermined Topic:
   I want to get a general idea of your manuscript and archival holdings because I haven't yet selected a topic.
   
   
2. Unspecific Primary Sources:
   I'm doing preliminary research for my project and I'd like to find what primary sources are available on a subject at Yale and elsewhere.
   
   
3. A Person:
   I am interested in finding all original material that is in Manuscripts and Archives about an individual, including letters to, from, or about this person.
   
   
4. A Specific Topic:
   I am interested in finding all original material that is in Manuscripts and Archives about a topic.
   
   
5. A Person Affiliated with Yale:
   My great grandfather may have been associated with Yale. Is this true and if so do you have anything about him.
   
   
6. A Yale Building:
   I need to learn something about a Yale campus building.
   
   
7. Illustrative Material:
   I need several pictorial images to use as illustrations.
   
   
8. A Yale Event:
   I need to find information on an event in Yale history.
