Cantus: A Database for Latin Ecclesiastical Chant

• Indices of the chants in selected manuscript and early printed sources of the Divine Office.
• The texts are almost all in Latin, and the majority of them are drawn from the Bible, very often from the book of Psalms.
• A CANTUS index of a particular source will normally be used by a scholar who possesses a microfilm, a printed facsimile or digital images of that source (or access to the actual document).
• Also supports searches for manuscript concordances and comparisons of chants ordered in series.
• The project has an advisory panel of musicologists, with funding and support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and The University of Western Ontario.
