University of Southern Mindanao (USM), The Philippines
Apr. 20, 2009
Yale University Library donated 157 volumes of Arabic books to University of Southern Mindanao (USM). On Apr. 20, 2009, the books were turned-over to Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije, President of USM, and the Director of the University Learning Resource Center. This undertaking is an offshoot arising from the study tour "Faith & Community for the Southern Philippines" conducted by the Institute for Training and Development or ITD and funded by the Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs, US State Department. During the study tour, Yale University hosted a day activity conducted by Mr. Simon Samoeil, Curator of the Near East Collection, Yale University Library. Through Mr. Samoeil, links were established between Yale University and USM.
