In Syria

Starting Feb. 20, 2006, Mr. Simon Samoeil, Curator of the Near East Collection at Yale University Library, traveled to several countries in the Middle East to discuss and secure granting copyright permission from several editors of Middle Eastern academic journals selected by the AMEEL (Arabic and Middle Eastern Electronic Library) Project's team for digitization and also to discuss the creation of an Interlibrary Loan Program (ILL) between Arab libraries and academic libraries in the United States, specially Yale University Library. As part of the trip, the Near East Curator met on March 17, 2006 in Latakia, Syria with Dr. Zuhair Jabbur, Director of Tishreen University Library, Latakia, Syria (the site of the Pilot Project for ILL Program in the Middle East). They also discussed the AMEEL Project. Mr. Samoeil delivered a talk to the staff of the Library and the interested faculty and students about the AMEEL Project, specifically the ILL Program.
