Dear
Sir or Madam:
Thank
you for agreeing to respond to a survey for our OACIS Project.
The
OACIS (Online Access to Consolidated Information on Serials) Project strives to
improve access to Middle Eastern serials in libraries in the United States,
Europe, and the Middle East. OACIS,
funded by the U.S. Department of Education, includes a "union list"
of serials (serials are continuing publications such as magazines, journals,
annual reports, etc.) in Middle Eastern Languages, or in other languages
published in the Middle East, or about Middle Eastern subjects. The union list includes titles held by
libraries participating in Project OACIS and also identifies the serial
holdings of each library. OACIS also
identifies online journals from the Middle East and facilitates opportunities
for interlibrary sharing of copies of serial articles.
You
may find more information about the OACIS Project at: <http://www.library.yale.edu/oacis/>, and you can search
OACIS at: <http://oacis.library.yale.edu/oacis/scripts/pgsearch.php?searchmod=b<ype=ar>
The
purpose of this survey is to identify the barriers to participation of Middle
Eastern libraries in Project OACIS and to identify opportunities for OACIS
Partners, including Yale University Library, to assist in overcoming those
barriers. Any responses will be kept confidential and the results will only
ever be reported in the aggregate.
The
current list of members includes libraries from the Middle East, Europe, and
the United States:
American University of Beirut; University of
Balamand, Beirut; Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Egypt; Cornell University (United
States); New York University (United States); Ohio State University (United
States); Princeton University (United States); Tishreen University, Syria;
Universitaets-und Landesbibliothek of Sachsen-Anhalt in Halle, Germany;
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (United States); University of
Jordan; University of Pennsylvania (United States); University of Michigan
(United States); University of Texas (United States); University of Washington
(United States); and Yale University (United States)
We
are very pleased that you are willing to assist us by responding to the
survey. Thank you in advance for your
help
Sincerely
yours,
Ann
