(rev. 3/25/02)
The procedures outlined
below are past practice used in Notis cataloging. In Voyager, 927 and 928 fields will not be used. Instead, bibliographic records will be
uploaded to utilities and sent for authority control processing through use of
a customized program currently under development by Library Systems. “OK to Export” checkboxes on record system
tabs will not be used. In Voyager, only
bibliographic records (not holdings records) will be exported.
In Notis, a 927 field and a 928 field were added to each bibliographic record created in Orbis, including: new records, records derived from LTLC, and records based on copy CLARRed from a national utility.
The 927 field indicated that the record would be uploaded to RLIN and/or OCLC. Entering “rlin” or “oclc” in this field caused the record to be uploaded to that utility. Entering “tape” caused the record to uploaded to both RLIN and OCLC.
927: : $a rlin
927: : $a oclc
927: : $a tape
Once the record was extracted for uploading, the 927 field changed to indicate the year, month, and date of extract. The following example shows a record that was extracted on 7 July 1999 (19990707) and uploaded to RLIN and OCLC (RO):
927: : $a 19990707RO
In older records, the date does not appear in the field. The following example shows a record that was extracted in May 1995 (9505) and uploaded to RLIN and OCLC (RO):
927: : $a 9505RO
The 928 field indicated that the record should be sent to OCLC for authority control processing.
928:: $actape
Once the record was extracted for processing, the 928 field changed to indicate the month, date, and year of extract. The following example shows a record that was extracted on March 17, 1997 (031797) and sent to OCLC for authority control processing:
928: : $a ac031797
