Workstation Issues

This is an ongoing list of issues that need to be addressed as workstations are prepared for Orbis2. This list does not address hardware or operating systems – only client issues.

• Some library staff feel that the Voyager staff client displays much better if the workstation monitor is configured to display at 800*600 (instead of the usual 1024*768). The characters are much bigger and easier to read, especially the Voyager typeface.
  
  To make the change:
  
  Control Panel
  Display
  Settings
  Change the "Screen area" down to 800*600 pixels.
  You need to click 'Apply' to make the change.
  
  Going lower than 800*600 results in incorrect displays in Voyager and is
  not recommended.
  
  Please give this a test and let staff in your unit/department know it is an option if they find the screens in Voyager difficult to read.

• At each staff workstation load Voyager clients: Acq, Cat, Circ.
• On designated workstations also load the REPORTER, SYSADMIN, CALL SLIP and ACCESS clients. (ACCESS requires MSACCESS2000 and setting up ODBC connection to Orbis2).
• Set client preferences.
• In Tech Services departments change destination file w/in RLIN and OCLC Passport clients for exported records so that it matches the Voyager clients’ Import Folders/Files entry (under Preferences).
• Load MacroExpress (where tbd).
• For workstations that are used to print spine label and are also used for Acq, Cat or Circ load the Spine label printing client and establish ODBC connection.
• For workstations dedicated to printing spine labels, load just the Spine label printing client and establish ODBC connection.
• For self-checkout workstations, install self-checkout client and barcode reader.
