Conservation Laboratory

The Conservation program provides a variety of services related to the care of Yale University Libraries' rare and special collections. Under the direction of the Chief Conservator and the Assistant Chief Conservator, the program's primary function is item level treatment and housing of rare and special materials. In addition to treatment, the Conservation staff:

  • consults with curators and librarians,
  • provides leadership and advice for exhibit preparation Library-wide,
  • addresses issues of care and handling on special collections materials,
  • helps with emergency response and recovery, and
  • provides information to the public on conservation practices at Yale University Library.
