Guidelines for Selecting Books for CoLibri Covers
The CoLibri System creates a plastic (polyethylene) cover for books as a method of protection for the volume. The bullet points below describe suitable criteria for identifying volumes that may benefit from the CoLibri system:
- Volume is in no more than two pieces AND one cover board is attached to the textblock
- Volume is ready for the shelf with the exception of the date due pocket prior to be covered
- Front and back covers are flexible enough to be opened completely - 180 °
- At least one cover board is attached to the textblock
- Have a sound textblock in not more than two pieces, with each section of textblock attached to a cover board
- Volume can be up to 19.75” in height; no thicker than 2”
Other suitable items if they meet above criteria:
- Volumes with covers that are unique or have artifactual value (e.g. publisher’s cloth bindings)
- Volumes with endsheets that should not have a Perfect Pocket™ affixed to them, e.g. those with important information, maps, binding tickets, decorative (paste papers) endsheets
- Volumes with “red rot” leather (powdery leather)
- Edition bindings, in poor condition which will be damaged by further circulation
